An old friend that is now past on, shot a 50-140, couldn't hit the side hill with it, but he sure loved the looks of those big cases in his belt. That "Coydog Cool Factor" just has a mysterious force over some people.

Harlan:
I realize that the 45-90 and 45-100 are not standardized cartridges. However, the throat and leade on your rifle must be very long in order to accomodate a 540 gr bullet seated so far out of the case. Is this the usual way in which the 45-90 is chambered or will the freebore vary from one manufacturer to the next.

My 45-90 is a Ballard #7 Long Range. The Ballards are now for being a little throaty. The bullet is the P Jone Creedmore 540 and it is seated right up to the lands having two bands and one grease groove exposed. If I don't use the blow tube enough and get that first bit of fouling nice and soft it is hard to fully chamber, which does help to let me know I need a few more breaths.
