well last spring 2011 was a great bear hunt for me, short but sweet , lasted only 20 minutes
I went for a walk along the creek bank 3 miles south of town, and this guy showed up ,
so one well placed shot with a 550 grain paper patch from the quigley 45-110 and he dropped in his tracks,
bullet went clean through him at 200 yrds broke both front shoulders , double lunged him and centered his heart,
more luck then skill i believe,
we scaled him at the local feed lot scales, he weighed in at 538 LBS
his skull measured 22,78th inches

Nice going, and nice bear. Like Clarence says, these rifles flat out work on game. If you put one of these bullets behind the shoulder of a moose, it is going to put him on the ground in short order. You're on a roll now, so keep it going. Congratulations. Shoot straight, rdnck.

Nice one.
Nothing like hunting with these rifles. Scoped rifle hunting does'nt compare anymore.

Re: 2011 prairie Black Bear
When I was a grad student I went on a radio tagging trip with Gary Alt of the PA Fish & Game department. This was the early eighties. He was the resident black bear expert at the time. It was early March & at one place we pulled a sow out of her den that had eight cubs & all were healthy. The sow weighted around 175lbs. That den was in a cul de sac developement nearby some new construction. Gary said that with mild winters and good food supply the bears will migrate all the way into NJ & will probably become a nusance. He also said with all the food sources bears have the potential for great growth.
I guess he was right!!!

I was born & raised in northwest Jersey, and when I was a kid { moved to Arizona in '83 } we NEVER saw any bear anywhere in any part of N.J. Damn, what a bruiser !!
