Gas Checks
Is it helpful, or just a good/bad idea to place gas checks on my 535 grain cast bullets for my 45-110?

Re: Gas Checks
It may be helpful if you are going for a high velocity load with smokeless powder but the 45/110 is not a good cartridge for that. Gas checks are not allowed in any black powder competitions. Fiber, felt or plastic wads are generally used in black powder loads.

Re: Gas Checks
You can use a gas check on a .45-110 and also use smokeless powder in that caliber or use harder lead w/o the gas check i.e. Lyman # 2 which is what I use on my .50-140 (3 1/4"). It works REALLY well.

VirginiaGrizzly if you are shooting black powder then you definitey don't want or need any. I have no experience with smokeless in that cartridge no have no advice there.

All,
Thanks for all of the replies, I'm shooting black powder and won't be using the gas checks!
