Re: 35-40 dies.
With the new 3F Swiss, 53 grains overflows the case. With an older lot of 1 1/2 Swiss, 54 grains left me with about 0.080 inches from overflowing. I only seat about 0.10 inches into the case after compressing with a 0.30 inch thick wad.

Would there be any benefit to shooting a 9 twist over a 10? Lija offers a 6 groove 9 twist option with a .358 groove.

Based on "common knowledge" you 'might' be able to shoot a longer/heavier bullet. Would be one of those things than may or may not prove true. You should get a 9" twist and let us know your results.

My 340 grain DT/PJ Money bullet is 1.500 inches long. I use a 10-twist Douglas. This combination with 54.0 grains of pre-2016 1 /12 Swiss and 16 to 1 alloy could shoot sub-minute of angle at 500 meters in moderate winds. Do not use antimony bearing alloys with these fast-twist 35s. They will lead - bad!

Compared to my 16-twist 40, I notice it when the arthritis in my wrist starts to act-up; other wise no.

Re: 35-40 dies.
Thanks for your time. I just found out I am talking to THE Rick. Thanks for your help!! The Lija barrel has a 16 week wait time while the Douglas is about 4 weeks so based on what you are telling me I will probably just go with the 10 twist Douglas. Will the Winchester brass hit the longer chamber dimension? I hate to have a reamer cut before I know what the length of the brass will be and I can’t find any Winchester 38-55 brass anywhere. If the chamber is to long for the brass then I will have some issues with paper rings.

Can 30-40 brass be made to work?

You would have to check the specs, but I believe the 30 US case is larger in the rim and at the case head than the cartridges based off the 38-55 and the family of wcf cartridges that followed.

30-40 Brass -- when made into 35 caliber they call it a 35-55. Mike Lewis shot a 35-55 when he was active. DT played with it too.

I used the the 38-55 Winchester 2.245" Long Basic from BACO. They are currently out of stock. It does need to be trimmed after forming. "THE Rick" -- if you are referring to the "Geologist", it is actually "The Joe".
