decapper
Don't remember if I asked this on this forum or not. (getting old sucks) I am switching from my 45-90 thumper to 40-65. I need to get a new decapper for the 40. I have a Distant Thunder for the 45 that I really like but was told he is no longer in business so I can't get a 40 caliber shaft. Any good recommendations?

Re: decapper
Jim Kluskens (distant thunder) still posts here. Send him a PM and ask if he has a 40 shaft available. He may still have replacement/spare parts.

Re: decapper
I just bought a Pope style decapper from Gerald Cleave in .40-65 and .45-70. Functions perfect and the workmanship is great.
I’ll try and find his contact info.

Re: decapper
I use this one from Frankford Arsenal, it work very well. That said I threw away the flimsy nylon universal collets and made up a couple of dedicated aluminum bushings for my .40 and .45 cases. No complaints now it works perfect and is fast.

If Jim is no longer making them or does not have a spare, If you know someone with a lathe the .45 cal rod can be easily reduced to .40 cal in a few minutes. If no one you know has a lathe, send it to me with $3 bucks for return shipping & I'll reduce the diameter appropriately. It's the least I can do since you've donated .22 ammo boxes in the past for our TX Regional Matches. PM me if you need my address.
BTW, once it's reduced to use for .40 cal, you can still use it for .45 cal. I've been using a .40 rod in mine for both .40 & .45 for a long time

As Wayne said above, It works for all the 45 cases as well.

Re: decapper
I use a Lee hand press and a Lyman universal de capping die. The press uses RCBS shell holders. It decap's both 45 cal. cases or 40-65 cases interchangeably. It fits in my range box so it goes wherever I go.
