1874 Standard finish

Post by Cort »

Kirk.

Ive purchased two 1874s over the years, both of them have the standard finish. What is the Standard finish, are there any coats of oil?

Regards

When I got my #3 with standard finish, I rubbed in a couple more coats of Tung oil over a few weeks, and the fiddleback in that straight grain Missouri black walnut just leaps out of the grain to please the eye. Looking forward to giving my hopefully soon to be finished Carbine the same treatment.

Thanks Kirk, I assumed as much. IMHO , its the best finish for a "working" gun.

Ill rub mine down with Gun Glow after a day on the range, it looks great.

Yeah, that's good stuff. Nothing better for wiping down after a range session.
