Brent,

What is interesting to me is just how much technological change took place from say 7200 bce to 1800's ce. Something tells me it ain't much. By the way, I know of a "Buffalo Jump" north of Casper, Wy on 25. Shot prairie dogs over there couple of years ago.

George, you say the invention of bows, arrows and the arrival of horses "ain't much?" Add to that much larger and more complex social systems, agriculture, and probably 20 dozen things I don't know about and I would say things changed quite a bit. But I'm not an anthropologist - yet anyway.

I guess I see the horse (Spaniards?) as being a significant improvement. More so than the bow and arrow. Those two things benefitted the plains indians to some degree but what about the agrarian cultures?

Frankly....I think the BULLDOG is shxttin us raw.....about livin in a dumpster!! Yes....I doubt THAT....quite seriously! I've got a buddy in Colorado that's a CHAMPION at gettin ya ta believe that he's on Food Stamps when in fact....he's pretty well heeled and eatin ribeye quite regular like!!

There was a thing on one of the History or National Geographic channels some time back on this subject Erik wants to do.
These guys killed a Buff with spears and skinned and cut him up with stone tools they knapped from brown Obsidian.
It didn't take them long to get it done, but the kill was interesting for a while I didn't know if the Buff was going to come out ahead or the hunter.

I few years back I took my son Connor and my brother out to visit a good friend in Alberta.
Ray took us around and showed us the sights including Drumheller and the "Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump."

The Indians at the time this site was used would herd the buffs over a cliff where other tribe members waited at the bottom, then they butchered the animals on the spot.
As I was reading the plaque that told how this was done, looked down and found a piece of buff bone which I still have.

It really must have been a sight to see, all of those buffs running off of the cliff and piling up at the bottom.
