Well, Brian, I can see what you might be thinking, they are similar in the same way the Geico gecko and Godzilla are similar!

Re: OFFICIAL 2021 FALL POSTAL THREAD
I started out early this morning hoping to shoot a better group with my new Brooks paper patch bullet before the wind had time to get up and blowing. That part of the plan sort of worked, but the group I ended up with was not quite what I hoped for.
The setup was the same as the other day and so was the load. I just pulled the bullets from some loads left over from this past summer and seated these new bullets in the cases.
I shot 2 sighters on a different target and those two were about 1 1/2” low of center. I came up 1 1/2” and shot #1 for string measurement. As the target shows it was almost 2” high of center and #2 followed but just a bit lower! I came down on the scope and of course #3 was low. You got to love this stuff! I nudged it up just a touch and that held pretty good elevation until the last shot. I was a bit disappointed in the group size, but the string measurement wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.
I had a lot to do with the vertical spread in the beginning and the wind was blowing during the last 5 shots but very, very lightly. I hope some load development will improve this some, but at least it’s a cool looking bullet!
I really find this postal match interesting and challenging to shoot, much more than just shooting for group size. Thanks to Brian for putting in the effort again this year.

Re: OFFICIAL 2021 FALL POSTAL THREAD
Had 14 rounds leftover for the Trapdoor, so I went to the range for a session. The first sighter was low left. I overcorrected and the second sighter was high right. With only two possible sighters left, I understeered the next two sighters. I then started a ten round string. Things were going good with several X's and several high tens. Then the sun hit my rear sight and then my front sight. I could barely see the target and had no way to shade the rifle. The last four shots started hitting low.

Woody, what is the support you are using on the bench with the trapdoor? Looks interesting as all I have available to me are bench rest ranges I'm think to get one.
Nice group there.

I got the CPA .22 out today for a target. 200 yds. Eley match. MVA scope, Douglas barrel. The big hole is a .45 didn't count that one. Mirage was an issue. I need to get there earlier.

Re: OFFICIAL 2021 FALL POSTAL THREAD
I don't recall any more. It's cast iron. I picked it up at Gander Mountain many years ago. I modified it by extending the lifting screw, so I could shoot with a heads-up position. I also replaced the front bag with a waxed leather covered wood block. Recoils more consistently in my experience.
Sorry, not much help.

Re: OFFICIAL 2021 FALL POSTAL THREAD
I was able to get out and do some shooting with my Shiloh 1874 in .44-77. These loads and setup were the same as my first 2 targets a bit earlier this month. These were the last of my loads left over from last summer, I simply pulled the other PP bullets and seat these 512 grain bullets from my new Brooks adjustable PP mold. I had some concerns about the cupped base in this mold but these targets do show promise and a consistency that make me a little concerned. Steve Brooks did make a flat base screw for this mold and I will do testing with it in time.
The only difference between todays loads was in the paper I used to wrap the bullets. Group #3 were wrapped with my old standby, the 9 lb. 100% cotton paper that is no longer made by THE PAPER MILL. Group #4 were wrapped Staedtler 8 lb. Tracing Paper. Both were run through my custom push through sizing die which bring them down to a push fit in the bore of my rifle. Because the 9 lb. is thicker, .002”, they fit tighter in the bore even after sizing than the 8 lb. paper (.0015”) which after sizing is an easy push into the bore. I was interested in seeing if one paper/fit had an advantage over the other. This is only two groups and doesn’t prove anything, but it does show that both papers will work.
The mold was ordered at .434” diameter to be used with the Staedtler Tracing Paper and I’m pleased that it did well.
The wind today was at 9 mph from 10 o’clock with occasional squirrely swirls running through and a few reversals so I had to watch my one wind flag pretty close. If I broke a shot with the flag slack it would go about an 1 to 1 ½ inches left of were I was sighted. I actually sighted in at the right edge of the 1” circle knowing that the letups would pull me left and I was working hard to keep all my shots inside the 3” circle, which I did quite manage to do.
This match is a lot of good practice with the wind and I’m enjoying the heck out of my efforts.
The targets and scores:
#3 target
1 - .700
2 - .325
3 - .985
4 - 1.850
5 - 1.365
6 - 1.395
7 - .965
8 – 1.335
9 – 1.055
10 – 1.230
11.205 total
#4 target

2 - 1.275
3 - .640
4 - .825
5 – 1.430
6 - .090
7 - .570
8 - 1.500
9 - .500
10 – 1.095
9.315 total
Now I’ll start working on some load development for this bullet and see how much I can improve things

Re: OFFICIAL 2021 FALL POSTAL THREAD
Looks good Jim. Keep sending them downrange !!!
I finally got to shoot some today.
With new sights and gun, I didn't have enough loaded to even do a 5 shot group by the time I got on paper, but at least I got sight settings and a little indication of what they will do.
After picking my rifle up from Shiloh in April, today was the first chance I had to send lead down the barrel.
Also might have finally found a practical use for GG bullets. Shot some in my 40-65 and they showed real promise. only had five shells to get sight settings, but the last three that made it on paper had about 3/4 moa vertical. More wind tomorrow, so testing will have to wait.
Also, patchbox's camming tools showed up today just in time, so had a chance to compare them to the original one I got from Steve Rhoades.
