We planned on snow birding down at Stanton AZ. just a couple miles from Wickenburg but we will winter here at home and make matches closer to home next season.
Just checked current prices here, that gallon here costs us 7.18$. Wish we had your prices...

So, what about the meager attendance when gas was $1.65 a gallon?

For the Phoenix Match you make one trip, shoot for a week, at historically the biggest match ever.

Which, by the way, is more record rounds down range than many shoot in a year. One trip for more than a years worth of shooting.

AND, you can shoot from a bench...................Kurt. Just letting you know.

Waiting to hear the excuses. This should be fun.

Oh, by the way, and where are the paper patch shooters?

Out of all the entries I have received from cartridge shooters, none claimed to be using paper patched bullets.

Somewhat confounded by that I called around and discovered Donny Ray and his Pard are planning to shoot paper patch.

That is a very small percentage of paper patched shooters in a population of cartridge rifle shooters.

Oh, oh, and only one entry from a competitor living East of the Mississippi River.

I know, I know, can't drive to the match, shoot and drive home all in the same day.

Unfortunately for some, the two best ranges for shooting long range BPTR are WEST of the Big Muddy.

Should have also mentioned, for those commenting on the declining number of matches available, a very good solution would be to shoot in those that ARE PRESENTLY AVAILABLE, because if you don't, those will also eventually go away. And you know it is true.

If I go,

I will stay at least 3 weeks, enjoy the warm weather, cost to pull the camper extra each day before fuel hike, was approximately 30 bucks now. About 43. 2.5 days down and back. I use about 100 to 108 gallon each way. So maybe an extra 45 bucks. It’s not the extra 45 it’s the expense of going by myself. 800 I don’t, at this time have to spend on fuel.

Plus a lot of other matches to attend. Camper for 3 weeks at Avery is cheap compared to a house rental. I have done the math based on actually going many times.

I been there multiple times, just was gainfully employed with extra income, about double what I have now.

Ps I have went before with $4 a gallon this ain’t new happened under O’Bummer too. I went then course I was making 50K a year more than I am now.

No excuses Zack, just priorities. Yes I would like to come to shoot but, for me to attend would be right at the cost of a new Shiloh.
From my front door to Phoenix is 1720 miles one way if I don't have to back track for making a wrong turn.
At 12 mpg for gas if the winds are favorable, what they usually are not :D
Cost for camp grounds,
Cost of match entry fees.
Food I carry, :D
Yes I would miss a fine match but I would spend more time with the Shiloh :D

Well, it could be that my entry has arrived in Arizona, as I am one who has to cross the Mighty Mississippi to get to Arizona!

Kenny, I can commiserate with you, as my trip will take at least 300 gallons of gasoline each way. But I will be there :D

I may be complaining that it is too warm, while Desert Deuce still hasn't removed his down jacket .....

You’re right about Zack and Chip, and Delitore.

Poor guys at the Shiloh all bundled up and I was in a shirt. :P

Asked me if I was cold, haha. Laid on the ground in a hoodie 3.5 hrs at -17 below. I don’t get cold.

Something worth noting at the Alliance Midwest championship this past weekend.

In the long Range match, 3 of the top 4 Shooters were using Goex, and Olde Eynsford. Bryan Youngberg was shooting his 25# 45-110 with a grease groove bullet. I was also shooting my 45-110 with my DDEPP bullet, and 103 grs of Olde Eynsford 1.5. Shot a personal Best at the 900 yard target.

The other 3 shooters besides Bryan, were also shooting PP bullets

A PP shooter won the Overall.
And another PP shooter won the high Senior.
I also Shot the high Scope Score in the Longrange.

Alliance Rifle Club continues to hold a very top Quality match. Much thanks and most of the credit goes to Jim Bourn for such a quality match.

If you didn’t make it, well you certainly missed out on a great time.

Bench shooting was extremely popular the whole weekend, next year I will shoot the Buffalo Match off the bench. I haven’t shot the Buffalo match in nearly 10 years, due to sitting issues.

Many of my friends that don’t do the target rifle circuit, attend Alliance, always good to see them.

The 22 was shot all off the bench this year, my friend of many many years Steve Miles came out on top of the 4 way Tie for match winner. Myself, Joe Lickliter, and Mike Alexander also had a 36/40 score in some very tough winds

It was a great weekend of shooting and fellowship.

It's been several years since I shot at Alliance and I see a lot of shooters I used to shoot with at Alliance have left the range.
It always has been a good place with friendly competitors.
I don't know Steve Teadtke, but I know Lee Boughner and Dick Savage I hunted and shot with then and I see they placed well.
Dick amazes me how well he shoots his 110 with the savear tremors he has and he always places very high at the shoots with his conditions he suffers from. Steve, Lee and Dick shot this match as a team and Dick with a broken firing pin suffered some accuracy problem till he found the issue and corrected it with a fine comeback.

Good shooting all of you, I sure miss not shooting there............Kurt

Kurt, I shoot with both Steve and Dick at Medicine Rocks and Big Hill. Spent a couple hours visiting with them about their shooting and wiping techniques with their PP bullets. I agree on how well Dick handles that 110. Both very humble gentlemen. Good to see the shooters names I shoot with during the course of the summer, with a bunch of them up in the top. That Linda!! Hoping to see you on the Hill in June. We are beginning to get some moisture finally, so she will be a green beauty along with the wind!!

Charlie,

Dick is worth spending time with. He puts a lot of effort in this game and he knows what needs to be done.
I will miss the Q this year this will be the second time since 04 that I cant come.
I have to go to Mayo again for a ongoing issue and next Friday I hope to get my Back worked on fixing a spine compression fracture of the lower 5.
I guess I have to get the mind mentality from thinking I'm 26 years old and start acting my age. It's starting to catch up with me.
