40 70 SS

One more question about the Shiloh 40 70 SS chamber and shells.
I called Shiloh, (nice people) and asked them about the 74 I have on order to be
chambered for the 40 70 SS.
I have a lot of JBA brass and asked if that would fit the chamber being made.
they said that Craig 30 40 cases , 2 1/2 is what they recommend.

Questions. Is the JBA 40 70 Brass the same, and will it fit the Shiloh Chamber?
Thanks ...
Ken

I have and use J.B.A,R.M.C and the R.P. 30-40 Krag stretched brass. The Krag brass is my least favorite, thick rims with a step and thin case mouths.RMC is as good as it gets and is my preferred brass for P.P.ing expensive but worth having 50-60 pieces. The J.B.A brass is very good with both P.P. and G.G. fit is perfect 2.5" and rims right @.70" I have nearly 200 pieces of R.M.C. and J.B.A. brass and 400 pieces of the R.P. 40-40 Krag brass I don't even use any more, half of it has never been loaded.
Dies, I have both Redding and RCBS the RCBS are the better of the two, the Redding dies size the brass to much.

I also do not resize brass for P.P.ing and only barely neck sizing enough to hold a bore riding G.G. bullet.

GUYS, THANKS... I have a Shiloh on order in 40 70 SS and I have been reloading for an original 74 in that caliber
I want to use my molds and brass in the new Shiloh. Save the old one for TV movies and Quigley replays'.
I wanted to make sure the brass , just ordered another 40 pieces , would work in the Shiloh chamber.
I guess I'm ok. and can stop being paranoid.
OK MAYBE NOT...BUT I'll try..
If I listen, I can hear them carving wood now....

Get enough cases of the same run you feel you will need and send Shiloh a couple cases you want to use in the rifle and they will cut the headspace for that brass.

Yes the Jamison brass fits my 40-70ss .... But if I was having one made I would have its camber sized for 405 w .. The brass is more readily available and much cheaper.

Does anyone know if Jamison/Captech will have a run of .40-70 ss for Shiloh coming up soon?

I had an ''back in stock' on 40 70 from Buff Arms. Jamie called and said they would not be getting them and offered me some Betram at a higher price.
I have some so passed. but they have Betram... Looks like Captech will not be making them soon or ever.

With that being the case, I may just go with a .40-65. Starline is available and since I don't compete with my Shilohs, brass doesn't matter. The thing that peaked my interest was a description in Seller's book about the 'mid-range' rifles used in days of old.
