Shiloh & Rugar #1 loads

I see a post where someone says the Shiloh (45-70) can take the same loads as the Rugar #1. However, in the Lyman 48th Ed, it shows that maximum loads for the Rugar #1 in 45-70 exceed 28,000 cup. Are the max loads safe? Does it matter if the bbl is standard or heavy? I mostly shoot Trapdoor type loads, but I would like to know what the old Shiloh is capable of (30 inch standard octagon) in case some grizzly bear took exception to my crossing his path. :D

Hi Steve, The Shiloh will accept the Ruger #1 loads fine. Keep in mind when you are loading that most loading data is based on a 22-24 inch barrel. Thanks Kirk

Thanks for your reply. Sounds like the slower burning powders for the 45-70 might be more efficient.
