Gilbert, you may find that the chamber rather than the groove of the barrel will determine which diameter bullet to use.
Taking a fired case from that chamber, deburr the inside of the case mouth.
If a .448 diameter bullet will slide in and out the mouth of the case then .448 should work even if the groove is .446
However, if .448 will not slide in and out easily try .447, if that doesn't work try .446, etc.

Next determine the rate of twist of the barrel. That will determine the length of bullet to use.

Just because you can trickle 100 grains of powder into the case does not mean it will shoot 550 grain bullets well.

Should the twist turn out to be, say 1-19, a bullet closer to 400 grains than 500 grains may shoot best.

FYI Gilbert, let me repeat in case I was not crystal clear. It is the chamber where problems begin. All the bore actually does is ensure the bullet leaves the barrel essentially round where it comes in contact with the grooves.

BECAUSE: If, upon ignition, the bullet is trapped in the mouth of the case because the chamber is so tight the mouth of the case cannot expand to release the bullet it will eventually pull the case apart and deposit the front end in the rifling and you have an obstructed bore. This is an undesirable result.

How to determine the chamber suitability I explained above, AND, don't forget the bullet also bumps up on ignition.

is a speed of 1350 feet for a bullet of 490grs enough to hit the target at 1200 yards or do you have to increase the speed

If you have an accurate load at that velocity it will work fine at long range
