I saw a Farmingdale Shiloh with the caliber marking “CAL. 40. 1 3/4”. Which cartridge is this?

Might that be a 40-50 bottleneck?

40/50 bottleneck is 1 11/16. The 40/40 Maynard is 1.75" long but doesn't seem much like a Sharps cartridge.

Yeah, the BN is 1 11/16, the straight is 1 7/8. BN seems closer, I've seen other Farmers on line marked with this caliber, maybe thats what they thought the BN was back then. Be interesting to see if the rim diameter cut is 45-70 spec or not.

My .40-50SS brass cut to fit the chamber is 1.9" long. So must be the .40-50 BN case?
