What twist does shiloh use in the 38-55? I am thinking on a 1877 and would like a 14'' twist. Thank You.

You just have to specify what you want on your order, standard is a 1-16

Do you plan to shoot BPCR & longer distances? If so, you may want a 12" twist to stabilize heavier/longer bullets. My 12" twist/30"long 38-55 barrel is fine with the 365gr Creedmoor and 360gr Money bullets out to 600yd. It chronies at 1310fps with 52.5gr of 2F Swiss, so feel sure it will be fine out to 1000yd.

Hello SSS, how do you get 52 gr. in a 38-55? Do you shoot PP seated out? Or greasers seated out? Thanks.

Had my chamber cut for the original 2.125" cartridge (Starline sells the brass) rather than the later 2.07" WCF case (again, Starline sells the brass).
From the left, BACo 360gr Money bullet, BACo 365gr Creedmoor bullet (everything but chickens & sometimes pigs), custom 320gr elliptical bullet (chickens & sometimes pigs) and a case with 52.5gr of 2F Swiss, drop-tubed. Plenty of room for the single 0.060" fiber wad and 0.200" of compression.
My loads are long enough that the first band is fully engaged into the rifling.

Dear SSS, why not 38-72 with fast twist? Then grease grooves covered, etc, etc. Letfly

Discussions with DanT and RickM and one more person (name escapes me at the moment) put me off on going as large as 38-70/72. I tried a 38-56 and then 38-50 for a while. The 38-56 was very difficult, but the 38-50 would have been fine. However, I'm happy with the 38-55 and will stick with it.

BTW - my Schuetzen rifle is a 12" twist barrel chambered in 38-40RH (not WCF). A delightful rifle that I will try at BPCR one of these days. Holds about the same amount of powder as the 40-50SS.
