Was a good show lot of very nice Guns there. Had a chance to look at some original patched bullets for a 32-40 used in the schuetzen rifles. Looked at some English and canadain long range muzzle loading rifles. Spent a lot of time visiting with and old friend. There is so much knowledge there that will disappear in the next 20 years.

orville,
interesting you saw patched scheutzen bullets in 32 cal.
it is generally considered that scheutzen is all about greasers, but every now and again pp evidence rears the ugly head of truth.
keep safe,
bruce.

Have to wonder Bruce, for those 32-40 bullets to have survived this long maybe they were not accurate enough to make it to the firing line?
Just sayin'

Bruce I'm pretty sure that some of the early schuetzen shooting was done with patched bullets. In one of the books I have there is mention of a famous shooter patching his bullets in the (train?) car while on his way to the match. Those would have been dry patched of course...

I have shot some patched .32-40 bullets myself. They are quite tricky to patch :-)

brucem, did see 1 gun you would have been interested in.... It was a roller with a false muzzle for using Chase crosspatch with in 45 2 7/8". IIRC it was $1500 and did sell. Don, I go to all the matches that I can afford to time wise. bobw

At the same place with the patched 32 bullet was also some of Farrow’s bullets also patched. Also picked up a 2 volume set of books on old loading tools, Reloading Tools of the Black Powder Era By Tom Rowe & Ed Curtis lots of color photographs. In volume 2 is the only photograph I have ever seen of the tools sharps sold to trim the nose and base of the bullet after it was swaged.

I wonder why they would want to do this.......
