I have a friend that has a return to battery rest.It will take any BPCR action. We shot with it a few years back for testing loads and wiping solvent. It was a lot of fun. We had quite a few one hole groups at 200 yds. As I remember it was more accurate than off X sticks. I think he still has the rest,he doesn't sell much of his stuff. I'll give him a call and see if he still has it.

Dave, did you guys ever do any wrist rest comparisons against crossed sticks for accuracy ?

Zack
No we did not try a wrist rest. The groups were damn good just from the rest. I talked today with the guy who owns the rest,He is not ready to sell it. He will take pictures and mail them to me. The rest had a pair of 8 to 10 inch V blocks that clamped the barrel just in front of the receiver. They were made out of 6061 T6 aluminum with bolts to clamp them down on the barrel. The blocks slid back when it was fired. It was returned with two springs.

A gas spring would probably be a good recoil retarder, to gradually stop the rifle without damage to the stock-might work better than a steel spring.

Stephen, was asking JDM if his friend could supply drawing or blueprints of the existing rifle rest they used since he is not willing to part with it.

In all probability, if it worked satisfactorily, it would help with a project to build another.

This was an interesting subject.
Did anything more come of it DD?
I am having problems of inconsistant groups. Probably me but I would like some way of confirming .

zack,
I have shot the wrist rest against cross sticks extensively, and can tell no difference.
some of the variable involved with this type of testing could include aiming, possibly requiring a 24x or bigger scope.
with such a scope, front and rear bags should give a pretty good indicator of potential if used correctly.
that becomes another subject in itself.
