800 yd Postal Modified ( added 200 & 400 yds )

Post by semtav »

Since many wanting to shoot the postal only have shorter ranges, I've modified it.

1. unlimited sighters, then 10 shots for score. ( no converted shots)
2. Any BP cartridge, any powder (cast bullets only)
3. Enter as many times as you want
4. Provide your own target. (anything of appropriate size will work)
5. sitting or prone cross sticks ( Benchrest if you absolutely can't shoot any other way.)
6. iron or scope sights
7. Scoring:
a. Measure each shot in inches from target center
b. add 10 shots to get total score
c. On 800 yd target, anything over 24" from center (including misses) count as 25
Final score
For 800 yards multiply total inches by 1 to get final score
For 400 yards multiply total inches by 2.25 to get final score
For 200 yards multiply total inches by 5 to get total score
(this is just an experimental match don't dwell on it)

8. provide picture of target and rifle to enter. (and loading data as pertinent)
9. this one ends Jan 31.
10. Lowest score wins

there will be a drawing from all the participants for a gift cert to one of the shooting supply stores.
Now someone go shoot :?

I'm pretty sure you could beat my first score with some of your recycled snowbank bullets.

Maybe :D but they might look good but I don't shoot them to. :)

I won't get a chance till Sunday or Monday if the snow stops and I will dig out my .44-100 and use it. I still have enough rounds for it loaded that are marked 2014 loads that need to be shot out.

This will be a fun match. TNX for putting it on.

I just finished loading some to give it a try. Today would be great, but the snow is coming tonight. LOL!

Couldn't pass up the opportunity while I was home.

Same problem as last time, but I think I figured out what was going on. Steadily got worse today. I had to refire over half my shells so evidently I have a dirty firing pin or weak spring, or something is causing it to not strike the primer consistently.
My sighters were up and down so just decided to shoot ten and give up

The ones that did stay on target kept about 1.5moa vertical.
the others went a target + low.
I never changed my sight settings.

Don't wait for your "best" showing. Or nobody will enter til they have the winner.
Thats why there is a random drawing.

Semtav your Browning needs a sear spring. It is either broken or on it's way out. Only part on Browning that ever breaks ---a stupid $5 spring. Find someone who knows how to dissemble as it can be challenging, Be sure spring is installed correctly as you could put in backwards. One leg is longer than other. (Ask how I know ! )

Ok, can someone slowly explain to me how to post pictures here? I can't seem to sort it out on my own. Thanks.

I haven't figured out how to do it directly from my smart phone, cause it keeps saying file too large, so I have to download the picture to my computer by emailing to myself on the smartphone then downloading the picture on my computer from the email.

once I've saved (downloaded) the picture on my computer, I:

1. click reply on the forum
2. click on the "attachments" tab below the box you type in
3, an "add files " box should appear, click on it
4 a file upload window should appear on your computer
5. choose the place you downloaded your picture to (usually downloads or pictures)
6. double click the picture and that should put another box below the "add files " box on shiloh
7. find the "place inline" box and click on it.
8. that should put an "attachment] xyz.jpg [attachment" in your reply
9 preview it to see if the picture is there or just hit the "reply" box

Maybe someone can start a thread with other ways to download pictures directly from the smartphone

45-70 2D PPB 1st.png
C. Sharps .45-70

522 grain 2D PPB
84.0 grs. Swiss 1 1/2
Starline brass
Federal 210 primer

Shot at 215 yards.

3 sighters in upper left corner then 10 shots for a score of 93.6".

Hopefully with some load development this will improve, but at least it is a group.

Now all the rest of you guys shooting at 200 can post your targets and have no worries of being the highest score.

I should have also said that I used a 6X scope and shot prone off sticks.
