February 1st and it's a disappointing -23 degrees this morning with the windchill in the -40 range, the same as it's been all week. It's supposed to warm up to around +15* sometime after dark today and be 27* for the high tomorrow and near 40* on Sunday. So there appears to be some hope. It would take a few days of warmer temps before it actually start to feel warm enough to venture out and do any shooting. Everything outside is frozen through and will warm up slowly even though the air may be warmer.

The way it's been the last few days, in the -20s with -40s windchill, a few times when I had to remove my glove to do something outside within about one minute my hand is hurting from the cold and the only way to stop the pain is to head indoors where it is warm. Even putting my glove back on I just couldn't get my fingers to warm up enough to stop the hurting any time soon.

Walking any distance into the wind is difficult and painful!

My poor dog lasts about 2-3 minutes outside and then he curls up in a ball and can't even walk because his feet are so cold. I bought him some snow boots and that is a comedy show like you've never seen before. I laughed so hard it hurt and the tears were freezing to my face! As much as he looks silly trying to walk in those boots at least he has as much time as he needs to get something done with them on, which is good.

I'll have to be ready to head outside and shoot a target or two when it warms up because it won't last long, it's supposed to turn cold again, though not as cold. I definitely need to step up my shooting with some of the scores turned in last month! Good shooting Coltsmoke and Woody!

It has been an interesting winter so far. Cold and a lot of dry snow that is over knee deep on the flats where the wind did not pile it up. It's calling for warm temperatures starting tomorrow it will warm up to above freezing but rain and snow for most of the coming days. The Maples need to be tapped because the sap will be running like an open faucet but I don't know if my lungs will let me walk through the deep snow. I will get the .40-65 and the .22 out sometime during the warm spell.
But it sure is pretty out :)

Just came in for lunch and to take a break. I have been dimensioning walnut all morning. That wood was pretty cold when I started, but it's warmed considerably since sun up. Finger joints are next. Should have the first glue-ups going before I quit today. Maybe I can get out tomorrow while more glue is curing. Can't let Smoke beat me. He's got no class.

I went to the range today after work, it was tough, it was 58 degrees when I got there Woody, and most of the people up North think the people in the South are stupid.   Got a .22 target to enter.
