Scope stand

I use a HD 55-year-old camera tripod and I also made this bench scope holder I think it cost me around 65.00 to make I had to fabricate the aluminum block to attach to pipe clamp that is a Celestron REGAL M2 100E I found everything I needed on Amazon and eBay. it uses a quick disconnect.

Several years ago, I bought the base model "Super Spotter Scope Stand" from this outfit http://gearbuggy.com/ I am extremely pleased with quality and I did not need any head to use the scope.

The stand on the right is similar to the one I bought from Buffalo Arms twenty years ago. It supports my Kowa and has always been very stable in windy Montana and Wyoming.

If anyone is still looking for a very good tripod for BPCR and not wanting to luck 30+ pounds up and down the firing line at Raton, I can strongly recommend this one. I even use one of these converted into a shooting stand that holds my rifle while I wipe and reload to shoot chickens.

I also like wooden tripods but they cost a pretty penny unless you shop hard.

I have all kinds of professional photo tripods and used some when I first started, they worked fine. but I prefer the cabinetree stands. The photo stands take me longer to set up and are heavier. I just set the tension on the base on the cabinetree once and then just fold out when ready to use, no adjustment necessary. Our winds here are as strong as anywhere and has never blown down. I use a Tamrac padded canvas photo bag to carry my stand and head in. Just fits nicely. I do have a custom head on my designed and built by Lee Boughner.

A few years ago at The Q, shooters on the line suffered 25 to 35+ knot wind gusts. Almost ALL scope/stands could not support the load and blew down …. all, that is, except Cabinetree stands. As far as I could see, they all stayed put. I bought one of the first ones Gussy made, and it has consistently provided me superb stability, reliability, and performance.

I use a Cabinetree and would not be without it. It holds my heavy 100mm Celsetron. It folds up and fits in the gun cart alongside the rifles in fine shape.

I'm familiar with several commercial varieties, but I figure I can make one a lot cheaper. Remember I'm retired. I have no idea how I ever got anything done when I was working. Been in the shop since 6 this morning. Just came in for a late breakfast. Back at it. Still working on prepping the shotgun for barrel browning.

We were supposed to head to Georgia last Friday for our "Cabin Fever" match at Riverbend. Kidwell called to cancel because the range was flooded. Yesterday we had very high winds all day. Today severe clear and 32 degrees. I can do small projects in the shop this time of year. I've got several pieces of furniture to get started when the temps moderate. We too have had a lot of rain this winter. Areas both North and South have had a lot more snow. Now the good news. The daffodils are sprouting. Spring must be just around the corner.

My only concern here with all the rain, is my hay-fever will be the worst ever this year.
The road to the range I use has been closed more times than ever before, because of run-off damage.
More rain in the forecast this week.....
