???New Swiss???

Post by Kurt »

I just had Powder INC send me a split case of swiss. The 1.5F came in the regular can and the 6 lbs of 3F my .40-65 shoots so well came in a new bottle that has a cube with three crosses on the label and a butterscotch color. Did they make some changes with the powder or just a different container ?
I put a scope on the new rifle and was bore sighting it to get it on the paper after a couple shots fired and man the bore was dark and pushing a damp patch the fouling came out like dry dust dribbling out ahead of the patch. This is what I did not see from the last batch I had in the old cans of 3F Swiss or I don't see in the 3F OE powder. I'm glad I only had 6# in this case and I don't think I will do this again. I hope the 1.5 is better.

There is a kilo(2.2 lbs) container that is different. It is square and tall and has a different label but it is the same powder.

Here is an example between the two lots with basically the same weather conditions and 63 gr powder load and bullet. Nothing changed except the powder lot. and both shot at 200 yards. That aim point is 1.5" for reference.

Last year I bought a case of Swiss Fg with those labels. The powder shoots the same. The label is different and they seem to have changed the way the lot numbers work. My lot number is just a date.

I'm going to pull the scope off again and shoot with the tang sight I used for the January target. Maybe the scope has a problem.
But the heavy fouling is still possibly an issue that caused this.
