Iowa Gun Ranges?
I am considering retiring to Iowa to help take care of my parents but am looking for a gun range that will support long range shooting. 300 yards would need to be the minimum. I have been looking and can't seem to find any near the Des Moines/Ankeny area. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

You are in a world of hurt looking for longer ranges in Iowa.
I know of one 300 yds range. Nothing further that is accessible.
Brownells, near Grinnell is supposed to have a longer range, as is Van Meter, but neither are accessible and I know several that have tried.
Ankeny, I think, maxes out at 100 yds. Big Creek maybe the same. I don't shoot those two, so I could be wrong. They might go 200 but for sure, not 300.
Indian Creek Ikes (Maxwell) goes 300. Very small range (three benches).
Everything else is 200 or less.
Where are you now?

I am in the S Metro of the Twin Cities where the range I go to has 25, 50, 100, 200 and 300 yd ranges along with 2 pistol ranges. I can go an hour north and there is a range that goes up to 1000 yds.

Yeah, Harris. I shoot there too. Lodi is about the same distance.

Rock Island IL. has a 600 yard.

One place in Iowa you might look at is Debuque (spelling?) Northeast corner of IA. which is across the river from WI.
There is a nice club/600yards range just south of Lacrosse, near Stoddard,WI The Lacrosse Rifle Club. 2,3,600yds Hi Power range
with pits, etc They hold Hi Power matches there. I used to shoot HiPo Service Rifle there. Good bunch of people.
I am sure a member could shoot BPCRs there.
Not a bad drive up from Debuque
the club probably has a website you could look up.
