Fix rubber coating on Crossno .22 liner

Post by Oyvind »

I purchased a .22 cal. liner made by the late Dave Crossno with my Shiloh Sharps about ten years ago. Both the Shiloh and the Crossno liner has served me well, but now the rubber coating of the liner has disintegrated and separated from the barrel. Has anyone experience with replacing the rubber on liners like this? Is the tubing that is used available off the shelf somewhere?

I'd appreciate any help.

Call Mike Basset at Crossno and tell him about the issue. I know Mike and I am sure he can resolve your problem.

Electrical shrink wrap tubing from an auto parts store. Layer until it's the right thickness.

Thanks, I'll try shrink wrap tubing. I contacted Mike Bassett last year from http://www.crossnogunservice.com, but never got a reply.

The paper work I got recently from Crossno says they will replace the neoprene for $25.00.

I took electrical tape and replaced the part that engraves the rifling, just build it up until it is the right size, then use shrink wrap tubing to do the rest.

It looks like something similar is used originally as well. If you look at the first picture, you see the tape in the muzzle area. Should be a quick, cheap and easy fix.

The liner is as good as new again thanks to Coltsmoke's advice.

First a test to make sure the tape and shrink wrap tubing combination was of the correct diameter.

Taped and ready.

I used shrink wrap tubing with a 12mm (.472") inner diameter and without adhesive. If it doesn't work I'll try the same diameter with adhesive. A heat gun efficiently shrinked the tubing to the liner.

Done.

Thanks for the posts Oyvind ! As luck would have it, I put mine in a couple days ago and didn't get it indexed properly so when I took it back out, the shrink slid part way off. and when I slid it back on, the last wrap came out. Left it in without the wrap, but when I get time, I'll have to restore it.
So, if my 22@ 200 scores suck, I'll blame it on barrel vibration
