Re: Hartford period Buffalo rifle
I made up a chamber reamer print a couple years ago for a PP only on the original sharps chambers that had a 3.5 degree from the end of the case mouth I think I will sent it and get the reamer made. I been saying the last two years I have enough rifles BUT I think it's been to long since the last . It will have a single trigger with a 32" light weight barrel with a nice piece of wood.

I think 44-77 is a great chambering for a Hartford Shiloh Buff gun. Tricky part will be finding the brass, but I am sure it is out there.

I went with a Hartford too from Bill, been about a year, still waiting.
Went with 50 2.5, military butt, standard wood, and 32 heavy with Lawrence long ladder and early type sharps sporting tang. After seeing some pics of real ones i probably could have gone with single trigger too but did not.

The single trigger on my Shiloh breaks at a little less than 3#, very crisp and clean. I ordered a Creedmoor silhouette rifle with the standard single trigger and had it changed to a double set trigger after I had it for a while, but I will talk to Kirk the next time I get out his way and see if he will change it back to a single.

Hey Kurt
Don’t you have another 44-77 in polished half/oct, not sure if standard or heavy barrel. Not to coveted another man’s rifle but could you post a picture of the two together I have a couple grand squirrelled away that the misses doesn’t know, for a future build, no sure if I should get the supposed .22lr or a .44? A friend has an original Hartford Sharps in excellent condition that Sellers missed in his book (too rich for my blood) I buy my guns with stacks of $100 bills not stacks of $1000 ones Thanks. John

Johni I only have one halve round Shiloh and a .22 Low wall halve round. The Shiloh is chambered in the .45-70 and the .44-77 is a Shiloh Hartford single trigger with a crescent buttplate and a light weight 32" octagon barrel.
I don't have a photo of both together but if you would like I can take one tomorrow if I don't forget

My apologies, I thought your half that you posted away back was in .44-77. Early onset Alzheimer’s on my part I guess Don’t worry about a photo shoot Thank for your time. Speaking of time, I need to get my bull barrel .50 some range time.

This is the only 1/2 round and it's a .45-70. All the other .44's are full round or octagon.

With regard choosing a 44/77 ..dont discount Rocky Mountain Cartridges as an option for your brass. I managed to take delivery of my 44 x 2 1/4" before Jamison had geared up ( again ! ) to run that brass. I ordered an initial lot and followed that up with another order. Certainly its a bit more expensive than Jamison/ Captech... but it can be had and its run to the right dimensions for the Shiloh chamber. I later got some Jamison brass and it was great too but I've no regrets with RMC and they are great to deal with. More than a few of us are praying that Captech get into production again but in the mean time...there are options if you're set on that chambering. hth.

... by the way Kurt...that is one pretty rifle...but I like your 44 more

You better be quick! According to the Rocky Mountain Cartridge website they are planning on closing the business. I placed an order for 100 40-90 BN cases a month ago and they accepted the order. From what I have heard they make a quality product.

Yes JB it is a nice rifle but it's not what I like to use. I gave it to my Daughter. I like the plain Jane rifles and I like the .44 calibers over the .45's.

.. Absolutely right ..the business is up for sale but their website states they are still accepting orders for the moment. They certainly made good gear for me and even made the necks a little longer for me so I could trim them to exact length. You also have the option of thickening up the case necks a tad if you are planning on shooting paper patch in a gg chamber. They are an option... and yes I've found it to be a top cartridge to use.

Re: Hartford period Buffalo rifle
I’ve ordered something very similar, ie Hartford in 44-77. The best advice so far has been to get the brass 1st. Before I placed the order I secured enough for the Shiloh and a roller that’s being built.
Keep an eye on the different forms, place wtb ads etc. one day I did a search and found some used brass on Guns Internatonal. It’s out there if you look.

I think I am going with the half round barrel but need to make sure on the chambering. As has been said, not a lot of brass for sale in .44-77 floating around.
Real gun powder is black.
