Kirk I don't have the words to express how happy I am with the rifles you guys are building. Each one of my Shiloh rifles seems to shoot better than the last one. And that is saying something, because even my very first one built in the 1990's is excellent.

I'm just getting back into prone after a winter of non ideal weather. The weather finally warmed up today and I didn't need long johns or extra jackets. I brought out my LRE in .45-90 with the 1:16 twist for some prone practice, using a completely untested load with the BACO 459540M3 bullet.

At 300 yards my second and third sighters were in the X ring so I went for score. The next four were also X's so I though to myself, hmmm this is going to be my first 100-10x @ 300. Nice! Of course I somehow jerked the trigger and put one into the 8 ring. Shooting has a way of making sure the ego doesn't get too big :-). The wind started gusting and I finished the string with a couple more X's, and a three tens.

This rifle is superb, putting 8/12 shots into the x-ring. Whatever you guys are doing don't stop :D .

Oh, and interestingly enough, neither the bullets, nor powder charges were weighed  .

I'm using annealed Starline brass, CCI-BR2 primers. The powder charges were dropped with an MVA measure set to 2.25" (Swiss 1.5) which will be somewhere just a few tenths under 80gr probably. Wads are 0.060" LDPE and newsprint on top. The bullet was cast in 16:1 and lubed with DGL. Slip fit and the OAL was 3.286". I think I might be able to go slightly longer on the OAL.

I shot 3 targets today. First was 97-1x but I had to fiddle with the sights a bit. One pulled shot and a wind gust caused the dropped points. Second was the 98-6x in the picture above, and the third target was only 94-5x but there were some big gusts that blew through and I wasn't adjusting the sights, just trying to shoot a condition which I messed up big time :-). I was watching ribbons at 200m when the real gusts were right at the firing line.

I will have to play with the bullet at bit more. I've had really excellent, and consistent, results with a little less powder ( 78gr ), and the BACO 458535M bullet.

Zack the target shown was shot with the 459535M3 which has a single reduced front band and mini-grooves. It's not overly long ( following your advice ).

The one I've shot the most in this rifle is the 458535M or maybe it's called M1? It's got all bands at 458" and they are full sized lube grooves. On my way to Worland next month I might drop by Buffalo Arms and see if Dave will make the same bullet but with mini-grooves.

Nice shooting in Phoenix by the way! My wife really missed the trip this year.
