It’s nice to see that sight again Kurt. I am glad it’s works so well for you. I’ve made four of those sights on different Shilohs that I hunt with, one with a brass insert planted on a 40/50BN. They all function well, and have piled up a ton of meat.

Stephen that sight is the best I have on all my rifles. The blade is perfect for my dimming eyes to see and it gets the job done. I don't quite have a ton of meat using it but it put over 900 lbs of buffalo meat in the freezer. :)

I would like to hear more about the sight. Could you email me or pm me?

Finally started shouting my Shiloh Sharps .45-70 today. Tried several styles of ammo. At age 65, these old eyes had a tuff time seeing the metal front blade and seating it into the buckhorn. I want to hunt with mine, hogs, deer, bear, moose, elk and more. It’s a tough question but here goes. As far as scopes, what do you recommend and why. 200 yd shots would be an accomplishment for me.

MVA's Winchester model "B" scope, is a good choice for a durable hunting scope. It's short, stout and moves forward in the mounts far enough for fast reloading in the field if necessary.

Well you said the sights aren't working well for your 65 year old eyes... That happens mine are 64 so I know that to be true. I'm allways on the econo cruise method of making things work. Number 1 open up your rear sight notch left and right with a needle file, don't get carried away here the idea is to have light on either side of the blade in the notch. Number 2 color the back side of your frt silver blade black with a magic marker or sight black. Number 3 test both before moving on to replacing the german silver frt blade with the penny. Sometimes it doesn't take much to get you in the groove you want. Bullets, .442" KAL tool TGBS , screw the greasers, hey you the one asking bobw

Huckleberry,

If someone else hasn’t mentioned it yet, and along with all the good info already shared regarding your new rifle, there might be one other thing to consider. After dropping the hammer on a round, you might want to get into the habit of going to “half-cock” before dropping the lever on a spent cartridge. Just might save your firing pin.

Enjoy that fine new rifle!

Great advice. Thank you for the half cock suggestion. I read that in Mike’s book.
