I think spring has sprung

Post by Kurt »

It's been a bad winter this year something I have not seen for several years but the Maples are finally getting a green tint and I dug out the lawn mower from under things I pilled on it in the shed and mowed part of the yard.
The Farmers are finally making dust in the fields these last couple days and they are several weeks behind the normal field work getting the corn and beans in the ground.
I even pulled the gypsy wagon off the wood planks and put air in the tires and flushed out the water lines getting it ready for the match season.
Maybe I should pull out the John boat also

John seven of my Dogwoods died last summer. I guess I won't see the blossoms this spring.
But the crab apples are budding out. :D
I hope to make Ridgeway some times this summer.

60 degrees in western Washington state. I have been cutting grass for a month. I just finished planting our 3000 square foot vegetable garden. It has been really dry so I ran the drip irrigation in our forty tree orchard overnight. Its a good thing that I am on a two week vacation. Spring came late but definitely has sprung! - Mike

I've mowed twice so far. (Usually would have been four times by this late in April.) We have shot two silhouette matches in Friendship and are getting ready for the Regional. (Prize boxes are 3/4 done.) Yes John, the Dogwoods and Redbuds are going strong. Finally, the little miniature Killdeer are hatched and running around the yard. I'm a happy camper!!!!!

I don't know just how much snow we will get Arnie. The forest is 100% snow and a low temp down in the low 20's
Sounds like when Carolyn and I got Married on April 30 1966 the ground was white the second week in May when we came home from Florida. :D

I have 7 hens in my yard scratching the ground just about every day but I haven't seen any chicks following them yet.

Might be almost a month before you see chicks. Incubation is probably about 4 weeks or so and they are just now starting to sit on nests.

That is a well used 97 and it still does its job.

It was my grandpa's and his two brothers' gun. Bought in very early 20th century. One of the brothers took it to Montana but eventually it came back to Iowa and then to me. I've owned it since the 1980s. It has a bunch of hunting licences under the butt plate beginning with Montana 1917, and ending with Iowa 2019. In between are Kansas, Arizona and possibly Georgia. Can't remember what happened there. It might be the best turkey gun ever made.

It has a lot of history for sure. I had one but got rid of it because it drew my blood several times with the bolt cutting my thumb knuckle
