Post by SchuetzenDave »

Sharps 50 made in 1873 with a 30" Bull Barrel with 1.300" between the barrel flats that weighs 13 lb. 0.4 oz.
Came from Fort Whoop Up (est. 1863) by Whiskey Traders who supplied Buffalo Hunters and the Blackfoot Tribe

That is in very nice shape, for it's age.

A real piece of history.

I have not checked the chamber.
I believe the .50-90 cartridge came about after the rifle's projected date of construction.
So it could very well be a .50-70.

The bore is in excellent shape and the internal mechanics are in excellent shape as is the wood.
I suspect the rifle was carried for days in a wet leather case which resulted in rust over all 100% of the exposed metal; plus deep rust pits in all exterior metal components.
