Denver Find: Colt Lightning Large Frame 40-60-260

Post by Kirk Stovall »

I went to Denver last weekend and it almost busted me. I had no idea what I was getting into. This could be the finest gun show in America. No black guns or Glocks, just good ol' blued steel and Walnut stocks. This is also a rare configuration in short rifle. I pictured it along side of a medium action 44-40.

I found this large frame Lightning in 40-60-260 along with some other guns there. I left Denver nearly broke, but certainly not a bust...

Couple of fine looking firearms. The Denver collector's show is one of the best. It's been a while since I've been.

PS: I too picked up one of my bucket list pieces this last weekend. Two P08's. A .30 cal 1920 Commercial and a 1937 Military. Have fired the Military but need to find some .30 Luger to feed the commercial.

Yes, I bought a minty Shiloh with a bunch of accoutrements and saw another original I might buy later. I also bought a Colt Burgess 44-40 and a rare Sako in 7X33 and an English SXS in 12 gauge.

I did spend almost half of what I paid for my house this past weekend in Denver at the Colorado Collector's Gun Show. If you haven't been to one of these, you are missing the best show in America. Lots of older and interesting guns without a Glock or 6.5 Creedmoor in the lot of over 1300 tables. This is a Colt Burgess that was made and shipped in 1883...

Shrappy, did you get the Shiloh 45-70 with the 9000 series MVA on it? when I saw that the guy wanted $3100 and would sell for less looked like a buy to me. Can't believe you let that original 40 cal 370 gr paper patch Sharps bullet mold slide for only $1100. Damn but a fellow could spend a lot a money in a hurry there. bobw

I think this one is coming up in an auction at the end of November.
