Gun glow, floor wax, car wax or furniture wax work well.
Do not use Tung Oil, Danish Oil or Linseed Oil which will add permanent layers of finish and will start to make the finish thicker and shinier.

Vintage Gun Scopes makes a microcrystalline wax that can be used on gunstocks as well as the metal parts of scopes. I find that it works good on a gunstock that has a good finish. On an old rifle with worn finish, I first strip it down and refinish it with tung oil.The wax helps to weatherproof the finish. A little goes a long way. Vintagegunscopes.com

build up a Tru Oil finish, then rub with rotten stone. soft and durable finish. brings out the grain.
rub with pumice if you want a duller finish. furniture oil polish after each shoot,
a little goes a long way with the rotten stone powder.
