Yes sir, that was my thought as well, also the traditional tad lighter bullet. 473 paper and 425 gg.
But since brass is pricey it was only a little bit more to get loaded ammo.

Starline makes excellent brass, and the company is owned by Sierra Bullets.
Graf & Sons are good folks to deal with.

It looks like you researched the rifle very well. It would fit in well on the plains in the 1870’s.
Are you an experienced hand loader with smokeless powder? Even if you are not, it takes very little equipment to load hunting loads with BP. You don’t need a lot of expensive equipment.

Lumpy, thanks Graffs looks good. I saw they had 50-90 smokeless from PCI too.
I thought about 1 box of that only because the grass is so dry here in Oct during deer season and fire danger is high. But i just couldn't do it. Will wait for rain or use something else.
That buffler gun deserves better.
