MVA tang sight recommendation

Post by Contaucreek »

Hi gang. It has been an awful year for me so Im just hurrying along trying to get my Farmingdale Civilian carbine ready for hunting season this fall.
I would like to put an MVA tang sight on it to use with the factory front blade.
They look black on the website, are they just deeply blued?
What model sight do I want?
I would like windage and elevation adjustments but Im not sure what height of staff I should use.
Typical ranges here are up to 200yds but typically 10-80yds. Looking forward to your input and have a great day! Thanks, Paul.

Generally shorter is better. For those ranges, a Schuetzen will suffice (130 series). I strongly recommend that you avoid the soule.

Will you want to shoot the barrel sight also? If so, avoid the elevator screw if right handed. This may still be a bit dangerous, depending on whether the eye Cup will permit the staff to go completely flat. I could probably get a rough idea of this for you.

The midrange also works well also and gives you some more flexibility.

Their finish is very black and glossy.

Paul that carbine with the Lawrence barrel sights or a semi buckhorn is about as good as you can get for a deep woods hunting rifle like you have up your way in the distance range you mentioned.
A little wider notch in the rear sight and just a little wider front blade is just the ticket in dark woods hunting.

It does have a ladder type barrel sight but it's quality is poor compared to the rest of the gun so I know that though it is close, it's not original to the gun.
I would like to have something that was supposed to be on it when it left the factory, where to find one?
I may abandon the tang sight idea. Thank you for your replies. P

Shot the full buckhorn ladder sight today at 50yrds. Its a foot high with the front silver blade buried into the top of the notch in the bottom of the buckhorn.
Am I missing something?
