1877 owners, what does you rifle weigh?

Post by gunlaker »

Hi,

I'm wondering if any of you 1877 owners could post the weights of your rifles. I'm most particularly interested in 32" & 34" round barrels in .45 caliber.

thanks very much,

Chris.

chris,
just order one at 10lb with a 34" barrel like they used in the day.
2.4" or 2.6" pp chamber.

Mine is a 45-90 with a 34 inch round barrel.

Two scales:

12.2 lbs

12.5 lbs

Because of the 12.5 reading, I didn't bring it to Raton. I will remove some wood from the butt to insure it makes weight on an "official" scale. At present, I'm not concerned as the main purpose of this rifle is target as opposed to silhouette. There, it does make weight.

Bruce I don't think I want to shoot LR with a rifle built to original specs given the modern rules. :-)

Thanks very much Woody. I dropped by today to thank Kirk for the prize that I won, and to talk with him about weight. I'm hoping he can get it somewhere between 13 and 13.5 lbs for BPTR. Unfortunately he wasn't in, so I will have to talk over the phone I guess. I ordered a .45-90 for use in BPTR, but if he can't get the weight where I need it then I'll probably switch to a .45-70 and use it for silhouette and midrange.

Also, from what the letter said, this thing basically goes into production right away which makes the prize doubly good! I can hardly wait!!!

Chris, if you are going to use it for paper patched bullets, go for a 70 instead of a 90.

Great, we will be seeing "Lucky Lippmann" on the line soon with his new beauty.
Could not have gone to a nicer more dedicated BPTR Shooter.

This is possible Zack, although this match was the first one for that 1874. I should use it a little bit before retiring it :-) :-).

Wise decision. Lucky and smart is a winning combination.

My 77 is a 32", 45-90, round barrel, single trigger, flared fore end panels and steel butt plate. It weighs 11 lbs 14 oz with the MVA base and 113 front sight and without the MVA Buffalo Soule attached.
