Barrel Touch-up
Big Timber Hartford 45-70 here; question - for very minor barrel touch-up (standard finish), what chemical should I use to match the color/ texture (cold blue does not seem to match), barrel seems more “browned” (with a matte type texture) than “blued”. Thank you for the help.
Re: Barrel Touch-up
Steve, I would ask the maker (Shiloh). I just accept it as wear and tear. Keep it oiled. Then it looks like a well used and cared for rifle.

Re: Barrel Touch-up
I have a small mark and use super blue on the end of a toothpick. leave it for a minute, then wash and oil it. my barrel is polished though..
do not go over the mark, you'll make it bigger...
or...leave it alone...it's a gun...they get dinged....Ken

+1 to this. When it comes to cold bluing for small parts or touch ups, Oxpho-blue is the kitties pajamas.Lumpy Grits wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2019 5:45 pm Best there is...

Yeah, I use Oxpho blue routinely for barrel and action touch up although it is not nearly as durable as rust bluing.
