Mike
How light can the trigger spring be before the firing pin can sent the hammer back and unlock the action and have the case come flying back at you?

Pedersoli had some trouble for a while I'm told with blocks blowing open from case head thrust when the hammer spring was not strong enough but that was from improper block/hammer fit geometry. I've never heard of a Remington roller ever blowing open from a weak hammer spring as long as there is trigger spring enough to return a proper sear engagement to battery.
I do like to have a heavy block return spring though to insure those later rollers with the mechanical firing pin retractor, operate correctly. A stuck firing pin in the forward position was about the only hazard I am aware of with Rolling block actions as they were very strong, simple and reliable.
The 1902 # 5 actions were factory chambered in 7x57 , I have one I shoot regularly.
On that one I did convert the trigger spring as shown in the picture but left the leaf main spring as is after dressing it . It has a 3 lbs trigger pull if memory serves me correctly and comes from the factory with a small diameter firing pin.

Well, if I can get someone to re-bore, rifle and chamber the little saddle ring carbine in 50-70 I won't have to build a new rifle and won't have to settle for the pitted bore it currently has in what looks like 43 Spanish. I still want to shoot it as is and see what kind of accuracy potential it has retained. I've been surprised before with rough barrels I thought couldn't possible shoot and they did anyway! :D I've also been equally surprised by pristine barrels that wouldn't shoot for sour apples no matter what you did with them bedding and load wise.
