200 yards would be the most convenient for me,otherwise I'll have to travel over 100 miles. ( Not out of the question, but not preferred :D )

The rest I'll be glad to go with the flow.

200 is good for me. I can do 300 also but that might be prohibitive for a lot of people who don’t have access to that kind of range

I too want to test. Especially for compression effects with different lots of powder. Can we find a way to make testing part of the contest?
My whole purpose would be for load testing.

Thinking :

200 yds
Bench or prone ( or sitting)
Group size scoring not from a bullseye
10 shots
Seperate iron and scope categories
Rear sandbag allowed

Anything else ??

Scope size limitations, if any? Given the choice when testing loads, I'll use a Lyman STS.

Iron sight parameters is going to be easy, scope not so.

(Im stiil trying to modify my scope mounts so i can use a modern scope at 200 yds. )

I'm good with "any scope." Or better, "any sights" not electronic.

YES, once my shoulder surgery heals sufficiently, hopefully by late Dec.
I am in ( when weather allows):
200yds, Bench Stix, scope. Lyman STS. Irons too tough for me lately, particularly for
load testing. I now have a 38-50-- needs more load, DDEPP bullet design work.
Perhaps have a "match" monthly??
Like NARPM is doing for 22 rifles.

Believe there are postal matches for 'any sights' shooting at 200yd over on the ASSRA forum, so is there any reason for the same here?
My preference would be for BPCR/BPTR rules to apply other than use of bench-sticks or front-rest and rear bag. Keep it simple. Mounting/shooting "big" modern scopes is not an expense I wish to incur for a postal match.

I’m curious as to what diameter sighting bull you’re all using at 200 yards with iron sights.

Mike, a German 25-ring works very well. The bull is colored through the 18 ring. That gives a 12" diameter aiming point. The dark red versions sold by SPG Products (Larry Baker) or the NMLRA are, but a substantial margin, the best targets available. But since we are talking about shooting for groups, anything that works for you is good.

SSShooter, there are many reasons.

Only reason I'm trying to mount a modern scope is for better load development, not to win any match. If I can get my iron sight shooting up to snuff, I will stick with that. better practice too.

I would actually prefer a "show us what you can do" thread to see what can different people can achieve with different loads/powders/chambers etc. Whether its a contest or not is irrelevant to me.

All sounds good with me as long as my eye lashes don't freeze shut :D
I don't thing scopes or scope powder has any advantage over tang sights. It only helps the shooter that cant see the irons or targets. Go with what works.

I'm good with 200 yards/meters, bench rest/sticks, any sight and whatever others agree to. The point for me would not be to win but to shoot. Winters have a way of making that difficult here in NE Wisconsin and a postal shoot gives me a reason to attempt to defy winter.

This morning it is 3 degrees on the plus side with a windchill of -7. Doing anything outside without heavy gloves on becomes a real endurance test, but getting outside and at least trying to shoot is better than sitting inside cussing the weather.

I'm not sure when I'll have my newly rebarreled .44-77 back from Shiloh, but if it happens before spring and relatively warm weather I'll be outside shooting it anyway for load development purposes. I might as well post the good, the bad and the ugly to a postal shoot while I'm at it. Until then I have plenty of ammo and bullets let over from the past two years to fill in so let's do this!

You are warmer up there and we are down here. -1 this morning when I got up. Windchill, I don't know.

Do you have trouble with your water-oil mix freezing? Windshield washer fluid freezes for me. PITA.

Brent,
You have to get the "-35 degree" antifreeze.
I "rejoice" my car windshield washer fluid with that
every winter. The usual stuff does freeze when we get down to single digit temps.
