Nice work Doug. I built and used jigs in a sort of similar way, but I've gotten away from them. Just need a flat, smoother surface elevated above the table slightly.

Thanks, I agree that our techniques evolve on this. Anything to speed it up but remain consistent. Sometimes jigs just get in the way if you get good enough at it.

I’ve been making an index mark 1/8” from the edge for placement of the bullet, then wrapping.

I really like your jig. Very good job.
One thing. I would face off the end of the bolt
since it appears a bit off of uniformly "square end"
due to the threading process .

I think that would be a good idea. Thanks for the suggestion.

If anyone wants to try one of these let me know. I'll print it up and drop it in the mail. It may take a few days to get one printed (I only have one printer and it takes ~3 hours on the printer to do one of these.) Just send me your address in a PM and whether you want the tray oriented with the bullet on the left and the bolt on the right or vice versa.

The top of the patch...is it at the start of the ogive or just a bit higher?

taa,
it depends on your alloy and wadstack, and some calibres behave differently to others in setback and obturation.
see Kenny's thread.
you do not want the nose to set back such that lead contacts the bore, and so patch to where this cannot happen.

you have to work out where the ogive starts after the big bang, and patch to there.
you have to balance this against the ideal of the rifling cutting the paper from the very front.
recovered patches will show if you are too far forward, and a leaded barrel will show if you are too far back.

there is no hard and fast rule other than the last paragraph.
