This will give me a good excuse to work up a load for my trapdoor.

I checked and I still had 17 rounds for the trapdoor left over from Riverbend last month. I broke out the trapdoor to take to the range tomorrow. Hope the weather coops. It will be cold in the morning.

Just a point off interest. In the 1870's and 80's .45 cal was considered "small bore".
I think I have enough Krag rounds to shoot a group, but I've already got four rifles out for tomorrow. It will have to wait for another day.

Oh Great. We just had 6 to 8 inches of snow hit the ground this morning. At least we have two months to shoot. I am glad we don't have to shoot from the ground with sticks. Dave

Ian,

Get that Trapdoor running. I need to get John Bly off of my ass. He kicked my butt in Georgia the last two years. It's time for someone else.

I'll get out there eventually. I have ammo loaded, but there are pheasants to hunt! I have priorities I guess.

By the rules I can't shoot my trapdoor. I put a wider front blade on it so my 72 year old eyes can see it. I've got two others that need testing. They'll need to be very good to beat the one I have shot.

I guess I better dig mine out of the back corner of the safe and get the spiders cleaned out of the bore. :D

Should be "fun" .
Gee , now where is my TD? back of the safe. Now to dig out load data and
Bullets?
Or my M 1903A3 or perhaps the M 1917 returned from Lend Lease to GB.

At least the Sm.lss gun will be easier to shoot in this colder weather coming up.

Next I fired up the trapdoor. These were leftover rounds from shooting in Georgia in Oct/Nov. This is an unaltered Model 1884, made in 1886.

Group measured 6.250 inches.
