Brent,
Interesting though, if you want to be burning powder and bullets while doing it.
That is why I like the bore snake technique- I can at leisure set up a rifle in my gun cradle
and Pull a couple "10 times" thru at a time. between doing other stuff in my Cave.
It seems to work well. At least so far I see no damage to the bore of those I have done.

Oh, and I have an aversion to fire lapping.
Saw reports that it can wear the corners off the lands of a bore.

that might be pushing the envelope a tad. Not that you cant shoot and post the results so we can see what it is capable of, but more on the lines of the hammered lever actions and pumps like the Win 62 or 1890 or copies of same

He sure does feel left out!

And just this afternoon he's sporting a new Lyman 25x STS that arrived in the mail yesterday . . .

Below is the way I prefer it - irons. I rarely shoot it with a scope. This is the way I like to practice with aperture sights. I put out a target and walk groups around the bullseye without having to go downrange. Just turn the knobs 3 minutes (one revolution) and shoot a new group.

I wanted to go to the range today to try out the Lyman 25x. However, I had an eye appointment this morning. They dilated my eyes, and my vision was fuzzy all the rest of the day. The next few days are forecast to be windy - 25 mph gusts. Not .22 weather. I want a calm overcast day. Yeah, I love my Winchester 52.

Another great rifle. I've got a 8 power Fecker on my 1937 vintage Winchester 52. When we held our first .22 BPCR match in Friendship a couple of years ago, that's all I had to shoot. I had just sold my CPA Stevens. We shoot two classes. Traditional and Modern. In Modern anything goes. In Traditional Irons and Scope are lumped together.

No, but your last score just happened that your widest point was also the horizontal measurement

Yes, the top rifle is an Alexander Henry .450 3-1/4 express. It was made in 1871 and remains all original. It has a left-hand lock to facilitate loading and unloading by a right-handed shooter.

It's a great shooter. Here's an old target for example:

That's not target accuracy in the context of BPCR, but the rifle was not designed for target work.

It's not a closet queen. The rifle does get used. Those of you who read The Black Powder Cartridge News can go back to the Spring 2019 issue and see several pictures of me shooting this rifle in the 2018 "The Little Big Shoot" written by Tom Schiffer (pages 6-10). I didn't win any prizes. If you look closely you will see a photo of Tom Rowe inspecting this Henry (page 8, top left corner).

After 3 or 4 days (can't remember how many days really) of pushing snow around most of the daylight hours we finally got a break today. So this afternoon I set out to shoot some groups. It was 36 degrees, almost shirtsleeve weather! The wind was light from 12 o'clock and it was dark overcast with occasional drizzle.
This was also a test of different lots of Swiss 1 1/2 that I have, I actually had 5 different powders loaded but I lost shooting light after the first 3. That and there was a fog developing between my shack and the target in the low spot at about 150 yards. The last target would probably have been a bit better with better light and no fog.

First up was my current silhouette/mid-range load. I marked all the targets with the lot numbers, load details and group size. After a sighter where I held at the bottom of my aiming point I made a 1 minute right adjustment and shot the 10-shot group. Number 1 went high, number 2 went into in the tight cluster of 5 on the right and number 3 went up by the first one. After that it settled in pretty well except for the two I broke low left, but not too badly.
This load and lot of Swiss shoot very well, better than I can hold that's for sure.
01-25-20-1.jpg
Next up was a newer lot of Swiss and it didn't do too bad, I think I can work with it, it just need some load development.
01-25-20-2.jpg
The last target was with my old lot of Swiss. It shot pretty well for me in matches, but I ran low on it and switched to the one in the 1st target. Again, I think the shooting conditions cause some problems with this group. The core of 7 or 8 shots is pretty good. The low one is actually the second shot in the group and I have NO idea why it went there. The last shot was that low left one, it was getting harder to see the target clearly.
01-25-20-3.jpg
All in all it was good to get out and shoot, better than shoveling snow all day! It was also good to see my current load is a consistent performer. It will take some load development to see if that newer lot can do as well. The new one is almost the same density as my current lot, for whatever that is worth.

Another note, all target were shot with a 2-diameter paper patch bullet that I designed and made for the rifle and it's long freebored 18-twist barrel.

The plan right now is to get out again tomorrow and see what the other two powders do and to shoot a different rifle for this match also.

So here a picture of my shack and the setup and rifle used today. I haven't shot this rifle with iron sights since I put scope on it almost 3 years ago. It is my most accurate setup at these distances and the .40-65 is just a pleasant cartridge to shoot.
