Here is another guy that likes to shoot dirty

I watch Greg Kinman (Hickock 45) often and I think with that new Shiloh he is shooting dirty he could clean the chicken line doing it using barrel sights
Someone better tell him to not let that lever fly hard to often

I think he is a better off hand shot than your average shooter, but his range is much shorter than it looks to be. I believe that his big gong is only 80 yards away.

He does shoot some lead BP loads too. I wonder if the majority of buyers just use factory jacketed .45-70 loads?
Real gun powder is black.

I guess I will likely fall into that category. I do not reload and just purchased my first Shiloh Sharps 45-70 so I will be shooting factory ammo.
Interesting thing is that I accidentally came across Hicock45 reviewing a Shiloh Sharps on the tube and decided at the end of the video that I wanted one. Found one on the net and just picked it up this afternoon. 13 pounds and heavy but I love it! I intend to just do some target shooting slowly moving out further and further if possible. What a Great Buffalo rifle! I am a lucky man to be able to own one.

Jmhpo2, shot white powder and jacketed bullets in everything for decades in competition.
Got interested in BPCR rifles with a second hand Shiloh and was surprised how accurate it was with black powder.
Casting bullets and loading accurate ammunition my 15 year old did just fine.
Don't pass up this opportunity to relive history as it basically was.
By the way, shooting them is fun.

From what I understand, the majority of Shiloh owners shoot smokeless. All I can say is give black powder a try one day and you might become addicted like the rest of us .Jimhp02 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 17, 2020 6:58 pm I guess I will likely fall into that category. I'm sure you'll have a pile of fun with that new rifle however you shoot it.

Re: Here is another guy that likes to shoot dirty
My guess is that most folks that shoot black powder cartridge guns also have one or two muzzle loaders around as well. I shoot mostly smokeless now in our clang and bang matches with the little Martini cadets I like so well, but use duplex black and smokeless with the two 45-70s. In the warm months the muzzle loaders get just as much or more use. About all I use jacket bullets for any more is caribou hunting each fall.
All the clang and bang matches are shot with lead bullets and reloaded ammo.
Many of our clubs shooters now are bringing out their old military rifles, working up some good lead bullet loads and having a ball competing with them.

Chris, I will definitely try some black powder cartridges. I just want to make certain that before I do I have the proper cleaning kit put together for it.
