Confused on scope mount?

Post by CaptnJack »

Howdy, all.
I was reading the post on decisions to be made. Still confused and maybe someone can help. I am looking at getting the MVA scope Series 9000 for my C Sharp 34" 45-110 and also be able to install on my other C sharp 45-70 34" barrel with another set of scope mounts. Also, be able to change it back to the Soule sights if I like but the old eyes are saying that is not going to happen a lot. Or should I have them machine the sights with the dovetail installed on the sight which they said they will do also? Looking at the web site it asks what dovetail size front and rear. I got the measurements from C Sharp. the front is .436 Rear is.450. there is no size of mine that is listed in their option. Also on the reticle's primary option block what are most of you using. I am looking at shooting the 110 at a thousand yards. and 45-70 at 600. Also, will I need anything ells to mount it on my rifles as in riser blocks, etc.? This is in my book is an expensive purchase and I want to make sure I get it right when ordering.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Have both rifles drilled and tapped for the proper spacing of the MVA 23 inch scope.
Or the DZ scope.

With that 9000 series scope shooting into the wind you will be wiping lube off your front lease so you can see what your shooting at.
Tell MVA what you want to do and they will give you a straight answer for what you need.
I have a friend that has a setup like your asking about. He had MVA make a front dove tail block insert and a globe that fits the front insert so he can use the tang sight by pulling the cope mount off and p[ut the globe on.

Will be shooting a Paper patch. Also, who am I kidding just can't see the front sight well anymore so might as well go with the dovetail mounts in the first place. The soul sight I have was a Russian made I got years ago it just neve made par in my book.

You're still going to get junk on the front lease of the scope with patched bullets.

As much as I dislike the scope I just finished drilling and tapping three rifles on my mill for mounting a scope.
If you want to keep on shooting and cant get the eyes fixed so you can see the sight, you might just make up your mind and start drilling and tapping to get things working again.

Put a sun shade on the scope. No lube on lens. Problem solved. I have them on both of my scopes. Also works great in the rain.

If you want to shoot 1,000 yards with a full length scope, you better get a real tall cheek riser. Best to go with a 23" scope for that distance.

Dennis is right,
I have a DZ scope and use the "C" height mount for mid range and "D" height for 1000

Where would you get a sunshade for it? MVA does not show one.

Marshall Chase makes shades for MVA's or at least did at one time. I had him make some for a Fecker. scope a year or so ago. I don't have his contact info. If he's a member of this forum I don't know his "handle".

Marshall had some with him at Friendship last weekend. He has been shooting more often with us. I use one when needed on my MVA scopes. Needed it last Saturday, because of the rain. Was loaning mine to my shooting partner until he bought one from Marshall half way through the match.

I had Marshall make some for the folks up here in Wyoming. I still have a couple and will bring them to Raton, don't know if Marshall is going to Raton this year. He missed last year. He makes them for DZ, Unertl and MVA. Not sure about other scopes.
