New casting bench

Post by Gamerancher »

So, with the "lock down" that is being enforced here where I live, thought I'd to get a bit of tidying up around the farm done. I headed out to start in the shed/workshop. I was procrastinating as usual, got side tracked and decided it would be a good time to make a dedicated casting bench.
( Especially after seeing Texasmac's tidy bench in a recent post - sort of shamed me into it.)
So, here's the result, made it up out of bits and pieces that were laying around the shed, so I sort of have been tidying up, yet to be "christened"

I'm still putting man cave together. It's been a all winter project and I still don't have the low casting bench built on the left side where the ammo boxes are sitting right now. But it will be a low bench so I can sit on a low stool. I still have to get a range hood and get it vented outside.

I been down in the mole den for about 40 years and my Wife said why don't you finish that junk room and move upstairs.
So it will be a man cave with a wall hung TV and full bath behind. Also it will be a place for friends to stay when they come visiting.

I'm ashamed to admit that my "casting bench" is also my table saw...

I'm done casting for this year, or next year if we don't do much shooting this year.

Those casting/loading benches are waaaay too neat! I want something done about them immediately.

I built a 12'x24' shop just before snowfall and the first thing I made in it was a work/casting bench.

Lots of room, LED lighting and a sliding window. Only took me most of my life to get around to it.

Mike,
That is a Southern Mountain rifle that resembles the ones that J. Henry was building for trade with the American Fur Company it has a 44" rice swamped barrel in 54 cal. a classic ketland lock that has the plate reworked to better resemble the locks henry used.

Nice rifle even if the lock is on the wrong side. I keep thinking I'll build a flinter again. It was 1974 when I drove over to Dixie Gun Works and picked up the parts after talking it over with my 2LT, Robert Glodt. Yep the same one currently residing in Texas. Finished it while stationed in NY but knew I could better, so let it go and never got one of them "round tuits". Have a beautiful piece of very tight curl maple that would make a wonderful rifle.

Not so much a bench as it is an area on the floor but it melts lead.

Kurt,
That rifle’s a beauty. I’ve always admired the lines of flintlocks in many forms. I have a copy of a J.J. Henry English Pattern rifle in 54 and always wanted one of his Lancaster pattern rifles for the Amer. Fur Co. to match with it but I got married before I could make that happen.
