nice write up!!! I've used a few of those with good success but, the best is still FA tumbler solution. 50pieces of 45-100, 2 cap fulls, fill up tumbler to top with water. They come out looking brand new.

Have found Woody's suggestion of filling to only an 1+ inch over the cases to be most adequate. Works much better than the 1"-2" short of a full tumbler that I used to use. 70-75 minutes to clean cases.

like waynes says in his article...….soak your brass first!!!! I use a nylon brush on a drill in a tub of water first. if you don't they will not come out shinny but, they will be clean.

this was some 45 brass I did the other night.

Glenn,

That technique is definitely faster but results in more tumbler noise and more burnishing of the case lips since it more aggressive. I'm not in a rush and one of my main objectives besides a good cleaning is to minimize peening since I anneal after each match and finger seat bullets.

That was the reason I went from my almost full case of water to Woody's suggested amount........... to get rid of the peening, which I was suffering with the much fuller case. As for noise....... like the outside of the case not being bright & shiny, not something that bothers me as it is so little more than the fuller case of water. Whatever works for you is good for you and whatever works for me is good for me. Just like suggesting loads for our rifles. They are "guidelines" and one has to see what works in their particular system.

I have always used a capful of Jim Kluskens cleaning solution in a Thumlers Tumbler Model B covering the cases with an inch of liquid, tumbling for 90 minutes. The cases are clean and peening has not been an issue. I use ceramic media.

Frankfort Arsenal makes a very good brass cleaning solution. I shot my .44-77 today and ran the cases in the Arsenal tumbler with SST pins and a little of their solution and this is how they ended up. I run the tumbler about 3/4 full with water.
I also like the Cascade original dish washer pill (I call it) in the Arsenal with SST pins and these .38 SPL came pout looking like unused this is a 2.5lb can full of cases I put it the barrel.

I use the stuff Greg Vest sells, used to be Dave Maurer. Greg took it over from Dave.

I have been using it for years.

FFA tumbler I fill about 3/4 full with warm water put in about 3/4 lb of ceramic media a good squirt or whatever dish detergent I have and about a 1/2 cup of regular lemon juice. Set for 2 hr they come out clean with no spots med. shine. It works for me.
