That could be too, but "the Patriot" was a whole lot later that the flick I remember and he was loading for a Sharps carbine. As an aside, my older brother and his son were "reen-enxtras in the Patriot. Larry (brother) told me he got killed 27 times in one day. One picture of him from the backside standing beside Mel Gibson. He has always been a re-enactor, pre-revolutionary to present. Spent his life sheltered in academia as a military historian and underwater archeologist. Still shooting, but I've never been able to convince him that he should have a Sharps.

Just watched the movie. Pretty good flick. Didn’t know you could shoot 1000 yards with both eyes open at a moving target on horseback with a Lawrence ladder and never miss, Hollywood  I read Marlon Brando was the first choice to play Valdez, would be a good one too however Burt played a believable greaser

What was Valdez doing with his ammunition just prior to that scene? It looks like he pulls the bullets and adds more powder. Is that right?

I thought he added powder then the bullet then crimped.

I shoot with both eyes open with all sights. Barrel, tang and scope. but I miss a lot

Kurt, if you miss a lot, you need to shoot at a bigger target. Just kidding. I know you shot a steel buffalo at 1560 yards with ladder sights and put a number of killing hits on it. I saw it because somebody posted a picture of it. Ladder sights work a lot better than most people realize if you know how to use them. And you, my friend, know how to use them. Shoot straight, rdnck.

Well, a Sharps rifle only makes a brief appearance, but if you like Gregory Peck westerns, you might try "The Stalking Moon". It's one of my favorites (although that isn't saying much--I like most westerns).

If you haven't seen "The Outlaw Josey Wales"...well I just don't know what to say. :D Fun scene with a Sharps but a kick butt movie all around. Other great rifle movies are "The Hunting Party", "Joe Kidd", and "Hombre". All classics, all must-see westerns. Hombre is based on an Elmore Leonard novel, just like Valdez.

The Tracker is actually pretty good and can be seen on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9bulhCKfLg
Nemesis was the name engraved on Kristoffersens Sharps. Good to a 1000 yds.
