My New Shiloh Sharps

Post by Jimhp02 »

With great anticipation I drive to my local gunshop. New Shiloh sharps model 1874, 45-70 with 30 inch octagonal barrel and semi-fancy would had arrived!.
When I opened the box I was blown away. What an absolutely Gorgeous rifle!! The wood looked great and the case colors were magnificent. I picked her up and was surprised at how light she seemed (10-11 pounds), balancing perfectly in my right hand as I held it by my side.
The MVA Soule and front sights were perfect as I looked down the barrel sighting on an imaginary Wild Hog in the distance.

Actually, it is impossible for me to describe how beautiful this gun is and how happy I am to have it. To all the folks at Shiloh sharps I am greatly indebted and will treasure this gone for the rest of my life.

I never tire of looking at the wood to metal fit on all Shiloh's. I've never seen better fitting on any make of rifle at any price and I've never seen a Shiloh with anything other than almost perfect wood fit. Truly one of the "Worlds" finest gun makers!

Jim, I too have a 45-70, 30” oct barrel with a Soule tang site on order thru Mr. Goodman. I am anxious and looking at your photos gets me even more anxious. Your piece should shoot as good as it looks. If you have time after mounting your scope, more photos would be great. Thank you again for the D & T photos.

I must say, getting my new Shiloh Sharps just before the long Memorial Day weekend. First, I took time to pay tribute to all the American Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines who made the ultimate sacrifice for me and this nation.
I was able to go down to the old pasture I use as a shooting range and have fun shooting at paper. My shooting accuracy has improved tremendously. The only difference is the new rifle and my MVA 5x scope. Everything else, including me, stayed the same. Not that I am suggesting I am now a good shot! Lol!! I did have a problem remembering to pull the scope back to battery after each shot. But, like going to half cock after shooting and before loading it comes with practice.
I almost hate to leave today to go back to work tomorrow but it’s nice to have work to go back to! As an aside, on Saturday I had an anniversary, 13 years without a drop of alcohol. Full of Gratitude.
