Thanks for your post and advice George. I got the feeling most if not all of the rifles went to fill a niche in someone's collection and these guys are not serious shooters. I wasn't going to buy one without inspecting the bores.

If a good buy comes up Kieth on a questionable bore , for a shooter, you will often be very pleasantly surprised at how well they can shoot or be made to shoot with a fresh crown and a good lap job. Both of these are within the average gun persons capability with a bit of instruction.
Not much can be done with a really bad throat except a barrel set back and lengthening of the chamber but the rest can usually be made to yield surprising results.
It's taken some years to come to this conclusion as I like a clean bright bore as much as the next guy but remember that in actuality all a barrel needs do is spin a bullet and not deform it.
