Re: Paul Jones mould question
The only Paul Jones mold I have is marked,
"PAUL JONES"
"40 CAL"
The mold came with an 1897 #5 Rolling Block.
I was told it is supposed to mimic the nose of the X-15 Rocket plane.
I've never cast nor shot any bullets with it.

Re: Paul Jones mould question
Ed,
That is a most unusual mould. I've never seen anything like it from any mould supplier. Possibly Paul or his customer was trying to maximize the BC without lengthening the main body of the bullet. If the tip was rounded it would essentially be a creedmoor design. Very interesting.

Re: Paul Jones mould question
Since I started this thread I guess I need to show a photo of 2 of my 3 PJ moulds. The other one which I had a question on is identical to VectorMan's 45-70 mould. The 41001 is clearly a creedmoor design. I'm not sure what to call the 45022-2 - kinda a cross between a creedmoor and a "money bullet" with 4 narrow shallow grooves.

My 38001 is a Dan Theodore design micro groove with a long elliptical nose.

Re: Paul Jones mould question
Nope, the Aussie's may be a .38 or .40 cal. Here's mine. It's a .45 Cal. I didn't have a nice sample so you get one that's scratched & dinged up. I was using it in a split-neck case to determine the seating depth (i.e. the COAL). If you look close you can spot one of the leade impression on the front of the 1st driving band. It weighs about 540gr with 16:1 alloy.John Boy wrote: ↑Sun Jun 07, 2020 12:17 pm Wayne, check this link. Re: Paul Jones mould question
Smoke, if you remember, that mould started out as a special 38 cal GG Money bullet Paul made for 38-72 rifles Dan, Doc and I were playing with at one time. When it didn't work out, I had Paul ream mine out to a 40 cal PP Money. It was then passed over to you and it has worked well for you I think................
