Shooting Sticks
Do any of you know if the Purdy design shooting sticks are NRA legal for matches? I built myself a set and they are extremely stable and Ive seen them used by a fellow names Sagebrush Longshots on YouTube.
The plans for these are available again on you tube

Re: Shooting Sticks
I believe the NRA spec for the sticks is no wider than 1 1/2" x 1" .
That wide bottom leg on the shown "Purdy" sticks is 3 1/2" at the bottom.
How do you jam that into the ground, by the way.
Purdy essentially seems to be a Tripod.

Thats part of the beauty of this design; it so stable it doesn't need to be jamed into the ground. The guy that designed them; ( now passed on) was a genius.

Re: Shooting Sticks
No more that 1" by 2" or 1 1/2" diameter. Spikes may be no longer that 3"
I'm thinking those sticks were not intended for NRA matches.

I agree with Bryany. Mr. Purdy's design is not NRA legal.

Re: Shooting Sticks
Point of clarification...... MR. Purdy is actually MS. Purdy! Her name is Karla Van Horne. She also makes some really nice leather goods.

The shooting sticks that WIND designed are not NRA legal. He fought that battle for several years before giving up. One of his arguments was that, when used as designed, there are only two sticks touching the ground at any one time. NRA didn't see it that way.

Re: Shooting Sticks
This is an interesting YouTube video by BuffaloBearBP with more detail and build details for these shooting sticks:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Ih-E8xlJk0
BuffaloBearBP states in one of his reply comments: “Only bad part about them is if you shoot BPCR silhouette or creedmore, these are not legal in their rules. They are however, from my understanding OK to use at the Quigley match in Forsythe Montana. "

So, although not legal for silhouette or creedmoor, they do look like an interesting and enjoyable build project for someone interested in a stable shooting platform for non NRA events. Thanks for the original post Raven.

Re: Shooting Sticks
I built my own a while back using some black walnut and white oak from my woods. The black walnut picture I still need to install the points And really have not needed to use them. Just can't get up off the ground anymore. The larger one is for when I sit. [/img][/img]
