MVA scope mounting
Howdy Gents and Ladies.
I am trying to figure out the spacing needed to mount the MVA A scope on my Sharps. I can go with 10.5 or the 7.5 spacing like they recommend in the instruction book. I like the 7.5 which shows in the pictures. I have it taped so when I bring it to the gunsmith he can place the mounting blocks right where I heed them? Curious as to what others have mounted there's at and works right. It's a 34" barrel 45-70. looking at shooting at around 200 yards out to 1000 yards.

Re: MVA scope mounting
The scope looks to be 4" or so too far back. Front mount needs the wider spacing.

Re: MVA scope mounting
MVA recommends 10.5 0r the 7.5 with the A scope. I talked with Cheryl quite a bit on this before ordering the scope. I will have a gunsmith do the drilling.art ruggiero wrote: ↑Sat Jun 13, 2020 12:57 pm those mounts look like the ones that should be spaced at 17" check with mva before you drill anything art
Re: MVA scope mounting
MVA's web sight actually says 10.34 or 7.2 inches for the A Scope.

Re: MVA scope mounting
My 23 inch scope is set at the 10.34 inch. The approx. change in adjustment is 3 marks = 1 moa. The shorter spacing will be less movement for the same amount of change. Something to think about. I have the Winchester style rear mount FYI. With the 1000 yard block I am able to shoot the Creedmoor course with my 45-70 using the BACO 535grain Creedmoor bullet.

Re: MVA scope mounting
Wouldn't shorter block spacing give more movement, per scale increment, rather then less?

Re: MVA scope mounting
So can you get to a 1000 yards with standard size blocks at 7.2 inch spacing and an MVA A Scope? This will be for a 40-90 BN Shiloh shooting 420 grain PP slugs at 1400-1500 fps out of a 14 twist barrel. I realize that MVA makes elevated rear blocks. Just asking the question for folks that have real world experience.I have a rifle on order with these specifications. Scope blocks at 7.2 inches and 17 inches (for my 28 inch MVA scope for silhouette).

Re: MVA scope mounting
Here's my experience for what's it worth. With the "A" scope and silhouette mounts at 10.34" you can reach 1,000 yards using 1/3 moa adj. If using Winchester "B" series rear mounts and standard front mounts at 10.34" you can't reach 1,000 yards...however if using 7.2" spacing you get 1/2 moa adj. and can reach 1,000 yards if you use a riser rear block. Since you are using the Silhouette mount I would have the spacing set at 10.34".

Yes. My explanation needed better explanation lol after I re read it I was confused. With the Winchester mount I received the silly wet 200-600 base and I also purchased a 800 yard, 900 yard and 1000 yard base's.
