do you weigh your bullets. an air gap especially to one side will cause a bullet to tumble.
I weigh all my rounds, 395, I allow 394 to 395.5 or so...if it goes to 393 or lower, an air gap is present and not worth the trouble to load.
I pour slowly from the ladle, and allow it a moment to cool before cutting off the spru. the base should be clean and even, and after hand dipping the spg, , wipe the base and your'e ready to go.
we all kinow t his, but it's easy to forget the basics some times.
If I do all this my 40 70 SS shiloh will print inside of 2 inches at 100 yards. sometimes much tighter if I take a breath and go slowly.

Geologist might be right - that's what a severe case of leading will do.
