Whittington Center Update from Jim Luke

Post by Jeanne Ring »

The following was posted on Facebook by Jim Luke who is a volunteer at the Whittington Center in the summers:

I've hesitated to do this, but am going ahead anyway. The Covid virus has had an impact on all of us. The Whittington Center at Raton, New Mexico, has been hit hard by the pandemic. Most of the scheduled matches for 2020 have been cancelled. The Center depends on match fees and donations to operate.

Several personnel have lost their jobs. The remaining hourly employees are limited to 32 hours a week, and salaried people have taken a 20 percent pay cut.

Hundreds of hours have been spent painting and sprucing up the ranges. Everyday roadwork is going on. The result is the Center looks better and the roads are far and away superior to what we've had in the past.

On the downside, their are a host of maintenance items that need to be addressed. But because of budgetary concerns, those of us working in the wood shop this summer are forced to recycle used lumber to refurbish items. This is just one example of the state of things at Whittington.

So if you love Whittington Center and all the facility provides for shooters, consider making a donation to the facility. Right now they are just getting by and can really use your help. Thank you.

Maybe lapierre and his cronies can forgo their next pair of $1000 shoes, $5000 suits and champagne & caviar soiree and give the money (our money) to the "NRA"WC instead. Or put the WC on the cover of the American Rifleman instead of himself.
